Well, if I had a driver’s license, this is probably what my photo would look like!

I (and the human) apologize for being so absent lately. I wish we could say we were sipping mojitos on a gorgeous Caribbean beach. But instead, our summer so far has been pretty dull. The humans work all day, one goes to school at night. It’s been pretty boring around my pad.

There’s been lots of lounging in the air conditioning. Not that I mind. It’s far better than just the fan.

The one highlight of my week was seeing the 25 pound box of Timothy Hay arrive in front of my house! Yippie Skippie! It must be a fresh-cut batch, because the stalks are extra crunchy.

We think we’re going to shut down the cafepress store in the near future. The cost to keep it open is a bit too much for us … if we do the free version we’d have to cut back on a lot in the shop. My human wants to try and learn how to screenprint her own T-shirts, so maybe Bunny T-shirts will resurface in the future that way. Basically, we don’t want to rely on cafepress any longer. Mom is toying with the idea of opening a second Etsy store, just dedicated to me. But that is still in the “let’s think about it” stage.

And I’d also like to take a moment of silence. I was very sad to learn about Stanley. He will be missed. =( We lose too many friends to the Rainbow Bridge. It never seems to get easier.

We are SO MAD about this article that appeared in the New York Times on Thursday. Titled “Peter Rabbit Must Die: Humane ways to deal with a pest problem,” the article does everything BUT concentrate on humane ways of dealing with wildlife.  Instead, the article is kicked off with a photo of a lop rabbit with a bulls-eye imposed on top.

The article goes on to introduce people — with their PHOTOS and weapon of choice — and how they take care of their “pests.” The story introduces you to Jessica who shoots snakes that frighten her. And Suzanne who clubs porcupines with a sledgehammer. It doesn’t stop there. There’s Joanna who drowns squirrels. And Wendell who shoots raccoons. Perhaps one of the worst offenders is Oskian who captures blue jays, ravens and crows and … kills them (we’ll reserve the gory details). The only person who did not allow the Times to use his name is the person known as the “Artist,” who shot woodchucks in his yard. (Let’s not even get into the journalistic ethic of using anonymous sources in stories.) The Artist is proud enough to admit to shooting woodchucks, but not enough to put his name on it.

What the Times does successfully in this story is glorify animal abuse. Let’s not forget that animals LIVE outside. Animals need food to live. If people are so worried about their carrot tops and lettuce patches, perhaps they should be growing their produce in a padded greenhouse. The yuppies the Times quoted could certainly afford to do that. And last I checked — raccoons don’t know how to pick a lock.

While the article briefly mentions The HSUS and ways to HUMANELY deal with wildlife — hell, they wrote an entire BOOK about the topic — it’s overwhelmingly lopsided. More attention and space should have been dedicated to humane solutions to dealing with wildlife. Oh wait. Isn’t that the subhead? Joyce Wadler has done an exceptional job of highlighting cruelty. Her sources seem to take pride in reporting their methods of “animal control.”

We’re disgusted. And we thump in your general direction. Given the opportunity, we will use that section for litterbox liner.

How do you stay cool?

You know what is the most fun? Destroying cardboard boxes. The silly humans keep giving me boxes to play in, but I love to shred them as the sun starts coming up. Like, 5 a.m.

It’s the best.

I am annoyed with the human. She’s always too busy. Even to photograph me! My goodness doesn’t she think I need an updated photo? Hmrpf!

Lately she has started to do her “hobbies” in front of my house, as if this qualifies for bunny bonding time. Absolutely not! I will not be satisified until she sits with me and lets me ignore her.

For this, is the true, bunny bonding time.

We just found out about our friend Archi Ann passing the Rainbow Bridge. Our thoughts go out to her mom during this difficult time.

I’m sad and so is my mom. We don’t know what to say. A lot of our bunny friends have crossed the Rainbow Bridge this year but it never gets easier. I feel lucky to be part of such a wonderful bunny community. And I am so happy I got to know Archi Ann.

The woman made this cake for her final in pastry school yesterday. She said she was inspired by me. It was German chocolate cake covered in chocolate Swiss buttercream with marzipan and fondant accessories.

So… HI!!

Well first off– I am very very very sorry for being so MIA lately. I hardly see the Woman at all these days! Never mind being allowed computer access!

Things are going very well on my end. For the Woman, well, she has been crazy. She is doing a few too many projects and activities, if you ask me. I liked it a lot better when she was boring and played The Sims2 all day. Now she’s running to school, to work, to art fairs… oye!

I hope all my bunny friends are doing well. I’m going to try my best to catch up with everyone!! Starting… now!

Must… destroy… cottage…

Mom is trying to keep a list everyday of five things that she is happy about that day. I’m going to give it a shot today too!

1. That I have a safe home.

2. Papaya tablets!!

3. Orchard hay. Hmmmmm. Orchard hay.

4. My big jingly ball. It’s perfect for picking up, throwing, and waking the humans.

5. My floor tile. I love the sound it makes when I dig on it. And it helps keep me cool in the summer. (And sometimes mom will freeze it to make it cooler on those hot hot days!)
