I was lounging around this weekend just thinking about the rabbits mom told me she saw at Petco. Does anyone know what happens to these rabbits when they do not sell? The two (supposedly neutered) boys have been there since a little after Easter. We know adoption is the first option… but we’re worried about what may happen to these two boys. We’re worried about all the socialization they may be missing out on. I’m not entirely sure I’m ready to share my space with two more rabbits… and we have housing issues with our building, so more buns may not be an option. But I’m all conflicted and sad.

Lola, this is the blog of a very nice guy who works for Petco: http://rickrockhill.blogspot.com/
His specialty seems to be dogs, but I bet if you (or your human) asked him your question (I think his email is linked via his profile) he could find out the answer. And if it’s not a happy answer, he might be in a position to speak to someone who can help or direct you to the right person to send a letter to.
I worry about rabbits that are for sale, too. I wonder how many get good homes and how many end up abandoned in a park or at a shelter later on. I’m often tempted to ask my human bring more home, but that isn’t always the answer, either. They might eat my hay. 😦

Thanks for the contact. I am going to ask him.
Mom just stopped at Petco during lunch to ask about the rabbits. First off, the man lied to her and said they were only there for 3 months (“they were the second shipment, not the first” — which is really coincidental that both “shipments” have a black bunny and a white spotted lop).
Then she asked if when these sell, if that’s it. And he said no, that they would have another shipment send more.
And then she finally asked if she bought both, would they still be $99 each.
“Yes. We don’t do price breaks.”
*sigh*

it’s hard – on top of that buying from them just encourages more selling – it’s very sad. and my Mum wants to help but can’t save them all either.
